Between 24 and 25 May, we hosted the second General Assembly of Wikimedia Europe, the umbrella organisation for advocacy in Europe, bringing together more than 20 Wikimedia organisations. The Wikimedia Europe team is based in Brussels and works to ensure the conditions for free access to information for all Internet users and supports the similar work of its members at national level. The membership meeting approved the annual documents and discussed the way forward and the activities of Wikimedia Europe this year.
In the framework of the “2024 General Assembly of Wikimedia Europe” we also opened a discussion on the topic “Public Service Broadcasting and Public Access – Systemic Ways to Fight Disinformation” – the patron was Marcel Kolaja, MEP. The experience from Germany, where this topic has been successfully resonating for several years, was presented by Christian Humborg, Director of Wikimedia Germany. The Czech perspective was followed by Oldřich Vágner, member of the Council of Czech Radio, and David Brabec, member of the Council of Czech Television.
