On September 20-23, the Wikimedia movement will demonstrate its strength at the United Nations meeting in New York.
Our main goal is to keep the Internet open, respecting human rights and protecting community – driven online spaces. Wikimedia will try to contribute to this goal by participating in the final phase of the implementation of the Global Digital Compact. The UN Member States will vote on the wording of this document as part of the so-called Summit of the Future, which will take place on September 22-23.
As part of the so-called Action days, preceding the summit, the Wikimedia Foundation will host a seminar, in which the role of so-called public digital goods, including Wikipedia, will be discussed. Wikimedia Czech Republic is amongst the partners of the seminar.
This seminar will take place on 21 September at 11:15 – 12:30 local time (17:15 CET). The fact that this event is the official event of the entire summit can be considered a great success. The event was sponsored by the representation of Germany, Mexico and Poland at the UN, the Office of the UN Tech envoy, together with the organizations Access Now, TUM Think Tank, Network of Centers, Wikimedia Deutschland, Wikimedia Czech Republic, Wikimedia Polska, Wikimedia UK, and Wikimedia Europe .
