The annual Describe a Monument contest has come to a close, adding nearly 400 new entries to Czech Wikipedia. A total of 31 participants took part in this year’s challenge.
Much has already been written about the contest itself, its highlights, and its unique aspects. Instead, let’s take a look at some of the fascinating articles created this year:
🔹 The Church of the Nativity of St. John the Baptist in Svratka, located on the border of Bohemia and Moravia, dates back to the late 13th century. Following the collapse of its main nave, the church underwent a complete transformation in the 18th century.
🔹 Slavík Villa in Brno, nestled on the slopes of Kraví Hora, is a fine example of interwar functionalist architecture.
🔹 Beethoven Spa House in Teplice, originally built in the 19th century on the foundations of the so-called “Pravřídlo” spring, was expanded in the 1980s with a striking brutalist extension.
